Frosted Spice Squares Recipe
Category: Desserts / Cakes
Rating: N/A
Servings: 12

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup unbleached flour; sifted
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 large egg
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup water
----CONFECTIONERS SUGAR FROSTING---
1 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
5 teaspoon milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cooking Directions:

Sift the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, cloves and baking soda together, blending well and set aside. Cream the shortening and sugar together, in a large mixing bowl, until light and fluffy, using an electric mixer set on medium speed. Add the egg and blend well. Blend in the molasses and water. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture, blending well. Spread the mixture in a greased 13 X 9 x 2-inch baking pan and bake in a preheated 350 Degree F oven for 25 minutes or until a cake tester or wooden pick comes out clean. Cool, until cold to the touch, in the pan on a wire rack. Frost with the Confectioners' Sugar Frosting. To Serve: Cut into 2 1/4-inch squares.

CONFECTIONERS' SUGAR FROSTING:

Combine the sifted Confectioners' sugar with the milk and vanilla extract in a small mixing bowl. Using a spoon, beat until smooth.
